Let’s get started!
1.
Start by printing and cutting out your crown template. Next, fold your Meadow Owls fabric (for the top part of your crown) in half width ways, right sides in.
Lay your template on top of your fabric and line up the edge that says ‘fold’ with the folded edge of your fabric.
Draw around your template and cut out. Unfold, and press, so you have one long piece.
2.
From your Hedgehogs fabric, cut a strip 6cm (h) x 42cm (w).
Lay out your Meadow Owls upper piece face-up (with the points at the top).
Lay the strip you just cut face-down on top so that one of its long edges lines up with the straight bottom edge of the upper piece.
Pin and then sew along that long edge with a 1cm seam allowance.
Unfold and press.
3.
Now that your crown panel is assembled, use it as a template to draw and cut out one piece from your Ditzy Animal Floral fabric and one from your wadding.
4.
Lay out your wadding followed by your front panel, face-up, on top and finally your Ditzy Animal Floral piece, face-down, on top. Pin all the layers together and sew around the edge with a 1cm seam allowance, leaving a roughly 6cm gap on the bottom edge.
5.
Before turning right way out, trim the seam allowance at each corner and crown point and snip into the seam allowance at each internal corner. Turn your crown right way out through the gap and press.
6.
Sew all the way around the edges of your crown about 5mm in (this will also close up the gap you left earlier!).
7.
Cut a strip of ribbon 1.5m long. Cut each end at a 45 degree angle.
To prevent fraying, you may want to roll the cut ends over by 5mm twice and sew, or simple heat seal with a candle flame (if you’re not sure how to do this, you can find tutorials online).
8.
Lay your ribbon along the seam between the two fabrics on the front of your crown, so that there’s an equal length of ribbon overlapping at each end. Pin in place, then sew along each long edge of the ribbon, where it sits on the crown, 1-2mm in.
Your crown is ready to wear! Simply tie the ribbon in a bow at the right size for your little one.
